Hail and Welcome!
This morning I am sitting in a delightful window alcove drinking a cup of Earl Grey Tea after a good nights sleep on a proper bed!
Yesterday we awoke to a clear sunny morning. The steepest part of our walk was finished. Yet this had cost Toby much in the way of a certain painful bedfellow: blisters. Blisters on his heels and most horribly, on and between his toes.
The pain meant that he was unsure if he could do all of this particular leg.
Still, we began the morning hopeful! We walked the two miles to Chesters Fort and then onto Chollerford and the delightful George Hotel for lunch and a well named pint! At this point Toby decided he could not reasonably go on.
Every cloud has a silver lining however. I would far rather walk with Toby as companion but for this remaining leg that what not possible. Yet as Toby went ahead by taxi from Collerford to Corbridge and our stopping point: I was able to walk the rest unencumbered by a rucksack of gear!
Walking from Chollerford to Corbridge over the now rolling hills and still coming across remnants of the wall and mile-castles…. though getting rarer by the mile now as we head towards the North Sea and Walls End.
Tomorrow Toby will resume: Corbridge has Pharmacists who are well stocked with blister plasters! Hurrah!!
Blessings to all!
