Hadrians Wall Walk Day 3
Newton to Birdoswald
Hail and Welcome!
Before I start: i lost my glasses today….so writing on an iphone key pad….. maybe end up being awful spellings! I will get TC to spell check later.
Three big events today: firstly, the rains have begun. We have witnessed a huge deluge!
Fortuna however smiled upon us: for we had just arrived at the honourable “ Old Vicarage Brewery” with a welcoming roof….and ale brewed on site!
Deluges are one thing, however, the constant and seemingly more insidious variant of precipitation is the constant drizzle! It does not matter your route, equipment and plans. It is obvious that Mother Nature IS the boss.
Secondly the trek is now rising and falling and following rolling hills that are bedecked in every shade of green available to the Goddesses palette!
Thirdly and satisfyingly to report: we have sighted remnants of Hadrians Wall for the first time at Hares Hill!
This means that from now on we we will be seeing Mile-castles and various Forts. Birdoswald to start tomorrow for example (where this piece is being written and studiously examined by the wonderful legal mind of Tobias Tregear I).
A week long pub crawl with some hiking sprinkled in 🤭. Hope yous are keeping a lookout for barbarians on the other side of the wall
