From Bowness on Solway (Roman Fort Maia) to Carlisle (Roman Luguvalium). Approx 15 miles
Hail and welcome!
My Son Toby and I have completed our first days walk along the route of Hadrians Wall. Beginning here,
It was a hot, blue sky morning! Remained the same the whole day! The Solway Estuary was a beautiful wide expanse and the tide was out. Fortunate, as this first leg can be, if your timing is wrong, under water!
We decided to make a brief video of each of us giving just two things we enjoyed about todays journey as we relaxed in the West Wall brewery in Carlisle at the end of our first leg of our walk.
Of course there were in effect more things we could have added but we wanted brevity and not to bore you. We both wanted to draw your attention for example to the history almost audible, seeping out of the stones from the Churches along this route today. Often the stones from Hadrians Wall repurposed by these early Christians:
Hopefully at the of each days walk or perhaps during, we will do something similar over the coming days.
